The Kalkkuppen belong to the Natura 2000 area in the Eschweiler valley. It is very diverse and has especially for the biotope network in the Voreifel a special meaning.
The entire Natura 2000 area covers the northern part of the area between Eschweiler, Iversheim and Kalkar.
There are orchid-rich Trespen semi-arid grasslands, woodland, bushes, lush grassland and quarries. At Kuttenberg and Wachendorfer Berg are the largest semi-arid grasslands.
In addition, there are many species such as Green Woodpecker, Forest Lizard, Small Kingfisher, Stalking Snake, Dipper, Corncrake, Eagle Owl, Kestrel, Tree Hawk, Grass Snake, and Sand Lizard at home.

The hiking area on the Eschweiler Bach is wonderful. The quarry is also worth seeing

Please do not leave the path, not even to take photos. Unfortunately, the "flower tourists" also destroy valuable areas from time to time by photo hunt.
