The "Friedrichshoffnung" slate quarry was established in 1862 by Friedrich Jahn, an innkeeper from Probstzella. The quarry operated for twelve years, then fell into disuse. In 1893, Friedrich Jahn died, and his son took over and restored it. By 1900, annual production was 400 tons of slate. After the First World War, the quarry was indirectly acquired by the Karl Oertel Schieferbrüche Lehesten (Lehesten Slate Quarries). However, the mine ceased to produce slate in 1926. Starting in December 1944, the quarry was closed for a planned underground relocation of the production of mechanical measuring instruments by the Wirths, Bach & Co. metal goods factory in Stolberg, Meschede, Westphalia. The project was codenamed Pekten. However, the quarry was never expanded.

Slate was mined here until 1989, then the change came and the peace and quiet was over.
