The parish village of Steinbach an der Haide is sheltered in a depression on a high plateau in the Franconian Forest Nature Park. Steinbach an der Haide was probably founded around 1200 by Benedictine monks from the Cella monastery, today's Probstzella. After frequent changes of rule, Steinbach came into the possession of the knight Friedrich von Thüna.
The communal village garden was already mentioned in the first half of the 16th century. It was created from an open area that was originally used as a pen for cattle, and then served for sowing and raising herbaceous plants. Flowers and fruits, grasses and vegetables grow there today. Almost every family in the village owns a parcel in the complex. In the competition Our village should be more beautiful, a gold medal was won at national level in 1967 and 1975.
