According to a legend, Duke Ulrich, who had been incited by the population because of constant tax increases and was expelled by the Swabian League, hid on his escape in 1519 in the cave on Ulrichstein. There he is said to have been supplied with food by farmers. As thanks, he should have granted the farmers of Nürtingen-Hardt complete tax exemption later (Source: Wikipedia).
