The hospital is an ecclesiastical care facility where pilgrims, sick and elderly people were taken in and given food, whereby the pastoral concern was in the foreground. Daily life was regulated, much like in a monastery. The Eichstätt Hospital was built in the 13th century. The location is typical for a hospital directly on the Altmühl and on an important street in the outer area of the city.
