In a gentle hollow on the slopes between Eichstätt and Landershofen lies the Hessental: here Alois Wünsche-Mitterecker, a Eichstätt sculptor, has created a captivating memorial against war and violence.78 larger-than-life sculptures cower, rear up and crawl on the artist's figurine - a peculiar contrast to the barren Jura landscape of the Hessental. Individual figures first point the way into the hollow, where the figures merge into a bizarrely solidified battlefield. They symbolize the futility of war and violence. For more than 20 years, Alois Wünsche-Mitterecker has been working on these figures made from Portland cement, granite and basalt granules. He himself did not experience the completion of the work; a part of the figures was set up only after his death (December 1975) in the years 1976 - 1979 according to his plans.
