The St. Mary's Church in Stralsund is a three-aisled church with a transept, a western pseudo-transept, an ambulatory and a ring of chapels. The basilica on the Neuer Markt was first mentioned in 1298. It is the largest parish church in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund. The evangelical church is considered a masterpiece of late Gothic in Central Europe. It was the tallest building in the world from 1549 until the destruction of its then 151 meter high Gothic spire by lightning in 1647. From the later 104 meter high tower of the Marienkirche there is a view over Stralsund, the surrounding area and Rügen.Source: wikipedia
