In the 13th century, a cruciform church was built from brick, of which only the Gothic west tower survives. As a result of the Christmas flood of 1717, the church was so severely damaged that it was demolished in 1726 and rebuilt. The west wall of the tower was also renewed. The new church was consecrated in 1728. Further storm surges in the 18th century led to a partial demolition in 1768 and the conversion of the church with a lower gable roof.
