The white cross stands on the former highway from Klosterlangeim to Vierzehnheiligen. The road gained importance in the 18th century when it was paved. Interestingly, it used to be called a red cross - depending on the color. Today the border between the municipalities of Lichtenfels and Staffelstein runs here.
