Bike Touring Highlight
Cycling may not be permitted at this location.
The Schellbruch nature reserve near Lübeck offers meadows, forests and water. Ideal for a bike tour in nature - but various animal species have also found their home here.
The Schellbruch is home to rare and endangered animal and plant species. But people also come to rest in this area. It consists of lagoons and a freshwater pond. The waters along the Trave were created in the wet meadows.
With its lush meadows, forest and brackish water, the Schellbruch is a true bird paradise. Conservationists have already counted around 200 different species - 90 of them bred here. After just a few meters in the green, cyclists can see the gray geese sitting on the edge of the one meter deep lagoons. Mute swans and pond fowl have made themselves comfortable on the shallow water. While the osprey circles over the Schellbruch, the bittern, reed bunting and whinchat sit in the bushes.
If you want to go bird watching or just relax in the nature reserve, there are numerous hiking routes available. A round tour starts in Gothmund, for example. The old fishing village from 1502 impresses with its thatched houses.
