Where today people learn, live, and work, an exciting chapter of Dülken's history began over 500 years ago: in 1479, the Canons Regular of St. Sebastian monastery was founded. The Canons Regular – not monks, but religious priests living according to the Rule of St. Augustine – took care of pastoral care, education, and pilgrims. Shortly after its founding, the monastery became acquainted with the whims of fate: storms, fires, and a chronic lack of money repeatedly caused turbulence.
