It was built around 1470 and had already stood for 120 years when the stonemason and plasterer Michael Kern II enlarged it and converted it into a home for his family. Three generations of the Forchtenberg artist family Kern lived in this house. "The house is in God's hand," Michael carved in stone in 1593, more than 400 years ago. Subsequent owners were probably unable to make changes for financial reasons, which was a fortunate circumstance from today's perspective, but also meant that this house came close to falling apart.
