The chapel dedicated to the Holy Cross is located on the Rofaberg, a hill above Eschen. The history of the origins of the chapel has not been clearly clarified. It is dated back to the early 16th century, which has been confirmed by the uncovering of the dates 1551 and 1583 inside the church. The original height of the chapel was only 3 m, but in the first half of the 17th century the chapel was increased by 2 m. During the renovation in 1952, pilgrim drawings were uncovered in addition to the dates. No documentation has been preserved about the original windows or their size. The chapel, which is oriented to the east, presents itself as an unstructured structure with a three-sided closure without a choir partition. The chapel was built in quarry stone masonry and has a hip roof with a bell spire, which slopes gently on the east side and cantilevers over the entrance on the west
