Hoher Kasten

Very nice view and easy to reach thanks to the cable car.
Accordingly, you are rarely alone here.

Hike as a circular hike highly recommended. Simply take the direct route from the Hohen Kasten to Brülisau. At about 2/3 of the way an innkeeper rents scooters with which one can drive into the valley.

Outlook without end. Accessible by train. Very good starting point for a great hike.

The view from up here in all directions is wonderful and the panorama_revolving restaurant is also something very special.
Personally, there are just too many people here for me, so I prefer to stay longer on the Kamor Trestenkopf, which is not far away and from which you have a very nice view.

The ascent of Hohem Kasten and Kamor was already described in Alpine literature at the beginning of the 19th century:

“From Gaiß you also often climb the Alp Kamor and Hohenkasten, which I also want to mention here, although Unterkamor belongs to Altstätten in the Rhine Valley, and Oberkamor and Kasten belong to the Lienz in the former Sas rule. From Gaiß, past flags, you can reach the Kamors mountain huts in four short hours, and on the back of the Hohenkasten in five hours.”

A summit that is quite easy to reach and therefore also suitable for families without any problems (if necessary, you can take the train down). The view over the Appelzell region and the Rhine Valley could not be more different and is almost always worthwhile if the summit is not hanging in the clouds.

In winter, when the summit is over the clouds, you have an impressive view of the surrounding peaks. Unfortunately there is no possibility in the winter to come down without a cable car.

The view is just amazing. Especially when there is fog below and you are up here above the clouds.

The striking mountain peak has been accessible from the Appenzell side with a cable car since 1964. It takes eight minutes to overcome the 869 m difference in altitude from Brülisau.
In May 2008, a revolving restaurant was opened on the mountaintop.

For anyone who wanders in Albstein a must have fantastic views.

4Km 20% gradient on direct route from Brulisau or 8Km 10% gradient via the Samtisesee lake, both routes T2, care required on steep route if wet. Great views from the top...

Wonderful panoramic view

When the weather is nice, there is a fantastic view of the Rhine Valley, the surrounding mountains, Lichtenstein and Lake Constance.

The summit of the Hoher Kasten can be easily reached on foot or by cable car. There is also a mountain restaurant here. Some hikes start from here.

Impressive view on all sides. Also a revolving restaurant. The train runs almost all year round.
