In the 19th century, the Glacisanlage was built west of the old town and the railway line with the main station that was later built. It stretched along the Sachsen-, Adelheid- and Editharing as a green belt.
The name Glacis originally referred to the open field in front of a fortification in military terms, which makes it clear that the Glacisanlage - like the Geschwister-Scholl-Park or the Park am Fürstenwall - owes its origins to the former fortress character of the Old Town of Magdeburg.

Today, the glacis complex is unfortunately no longer completely preserved, as it was divided when the Magdeburg city motorway was built.
