Johannes Church and Liberation Monument Serooskerke

Serooskerke, “Seêskerke” for the Zeelanders, is a small but nice village with few inhabitants.

The village has the shape of a ring village. It consists of four streets that fan out from the church.

Serooskerke is located between Middelburg and the beach of Vrouwenpolder. It is a typical Walcheren village with a small village center with church and church square and a number of farms around. The liberation monument in Serooskerke (municipality of Veere) is a bronze relief of a British commando in battle dress with a trumpet in his right hand (symbol for the Last Post). The relief is placed against a brick wall. A natural stone plaque with text is attached to the brick pedestal below. On the left of the plaque is the emblem of the 48th Royal Marine Comando and on the right the emblem of the 79th Armored Division (the buffalo head). A low brick wall runs on either side of the relief. Two plaques are attached to this wall on the left and one plaque with an emblem on the right.
