    Very nice historic mill!

The mill "'t Welvaaren" in Grijpskerke was built in 1801 and is located at Molenstraat 8. In 1997 a restoration of the mill took place. The windmill blades are 21.7m in diameter, but the mill is not capable of grinding as the hood cannot be rotated freely due to the attached house.

    It cannot be visited.

In April 1787, the post mill of Grijpskerke came into the possession of Jan Minderhoud for 400 pounds. This mill was lost as a result of the infamous storm of November 9, 1800; a year later the current stone mill was built. Molenaar was then Johannis Minderhoud.

In 1825 Klaas Houterman became the new owner; this until his death in 1847. The company was continued by his sons Marinus and Pieter. The latter went to 'De Hoop' in Serooskerke in 1864.

Around 1875 the mill came into the possession of the Coppoolse family. The last miller to grind here using wind power was Cornelis Coppoolse.

In 1922 Klaas de Troye from Middelburg made two new Potroeden.

On January 19, 1945, the temporary end came for this mill, now equipped with the Van Riet system on one rod: it stood with its back to the wind when a heavy storm arose. The sail cross was lost and shortly afterwards the mill was dismantled.

Later, the mill hull was owned for a while by miller Jan de Visser from Meliskerke. Around 1982 the hull was converted into a house.

In 1997 the mill was completed externally; but unfortunately the attached house makes turning and crawling impossible; there is also no top wheel.

According to many, this means that although it was very neatly carried out by a recognized millwright, it remains a 'joke restoration'.

The top ash is the rejected (after the fire of September 1, 1993) ash from 'De Hoop' in Wolphaartsdijk. In this situation 't Welvaaren' is not running anyway, so the axle did not have to meet too strict requirements.
