Linköping Castle is Sweden's oldest surviving secular building with parts from the 12th century, built into the western part of the castle. The castle is located high and west of the city center, near the cathedral. It has a strictly classicist façade in creamy white and a green copper roof. The area around Linköping was the seat of the Sverkerska family in the early Middle Ages and the center of monastic and church construction in Sweden. The castle was originally built as a diocese. The castle was since 1785 the residence of the governor of the county Östergötland. In 1995, the Swedish Real Estate Agency started renovating the façade and found that the oldest parts were not from the 13th century, as was previously thought, but from the 11th century Bishop Gisle's farm, which is the oldest surviving secular building Buildings of Sweden makes. Traces of older buildings, windows and prints in the west facade are marked as a map of the castle's history. The interior of the castle is most heavily influenced by the renovation of the governor's residence in 1796. However, there are still remains of the Renaissance castle, such as a fireplace in the National Hall and a few ornate roofs.sv.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linköpings_slott
