The wayside shrine was donated in 1955 by a Reifferscheid family man whose son who was just born was seriously ill. The uncertain prognosis was a heavy burden and the man looked for a place in nature to address his prayers to God. Since he was very familiar with the slopes and paths down into the Reinzelbach valley from his youth, the place below the castle walls was obvious. With craftsmanship, he bordered the rocky recess with steps and carved a protective dwelling for the figure of Mary.
