The individual settlement of Himmelmühle has existed since 1558 (reference in the purchase book of the municipal archives).
A grain and sawmill was built around 1680. On May 19, 1741, a major fire destroyed the entire property. After reconstruction, the mill changed hands several times. With the construction of the cotton spinning mill in the middle of the 19th century, a factory settlement was created. This also included its own factory school (the so-called "Long House", built in 1850), which existed until 1923. The owners of the factory also stayed here for a time. The manor house was built around 1840. After the cotton spinning mill stopped production in 1912, the building was used for various purposes.
The Chemnitz Clothing Office used most of the factory during World War I.
From 1921/22 the building was converted into the first cocoa and chocolate factory in the Ore Mountains. After 1945 the buildings served as a miners' dormitory for the SDAG Wismut.....
