The Cuxhaven bascule bridge is a Dutch bridge with a high counterweight of 60 t. The bascule bridge allows passage over the lock prow to the Kapitän-Alexander-Straße.The basement bridge, which is today classified as a technical monument, was inaugurated on 4 April 1955 after an eight-month construction period, after a first test run had already taken place on 2 February 1955. It replaces a hitherto existing swing bridge. At the end of 2014, the bascule bridge was closed for around 6 months due to a sudden defect. The old mechanics were replaced by modern hydraulics. The steel construction was overhauled and the road surface was renewed. At the same time the old paint was removed and the bridge painted again in the original color (green) (Source: Cuxpedia).
Immediately before it is a good fish stall where all fish rolls are freshly prepared and a crepestand!
