Here goes with a circular arc through the forest.

The Kaiserstrasse was expanded and rebuilt in 1777.

The arc of the old Kaiserstrasse was still visible on a map in 1955. The current course was already planned in the 2nd World War.

I was always of the opinion that the B290 was called Kaiserstrasse because Bavarian troops greeted Kaiser Wilhelm II during a maneuver in 1908.

A memorial stone (Kaiserstein) was placed near where the meeting was held.

You can find it in a small parking lot on the B290 near Wachbach.

The last emperor of the Holy Roman Empire (of the German nation), the Habsburg King Joseph II, drove on the Kaiserstrasse in 1765 to the coronation in Frankfurt.

For his safety, he drove with a large troop from Vienna via Ausgburg to Frankfurt for the coronation.

A picture shows the huge troop that rolled to Frankfurt.

This is the reason why the B290 between Crailsheim and Bad Mergentheim is called Kaiserstrasse.

However, the road is much older (e.g. 30-year war) and has always been used for troop movements.

The Kaiserstrasse is part of an old trade route that leads from Augsburg via Nördlingen, Dinkeslbühl, Crailsheim, Bad Mergentheim, Tauberbischofsheim, Miltenberg and Aschaffenburg to Frankfurt.

The Kaiserstrasse is the part between Crailsheim and Bad Mergentheim.
