In 1836 the synagogue was built on this site as a two-storey building after Sinsheim became the district rabbinate for 20 communities in the area in 1827. There were Jewish families in Sinsheim as early as the 13th century. In 1933 Sinsheim had 71 Jewish residents, who from that year had to suffer from ever increasing restrictions. On the night of 9/10 In November 1938 the synagogue was devastated and later demolished. In October 1940 the last Jewish residents were deported to the Gurs concentration camp in southern France, and a total of 42 people from Sinsheim were murdered by the National Socialists. The memorial plaque was erected on the 50th anniversary of the destruction of the synagogue.
