Schlangenbad Thermal Springs and Snake Fountain

Schlangenbad, one of the smallest spa and bathing resorts in Germany, is a picturesque place. The name Schlangenbad originates from the thermal springs known for their presence in the area. These warm springs provided a mild environment even in winter. They were not only known to the Romans but also popular with grass snakes – a harmless, native species of snake in the water snake family. These "bathing" snakes gave their name to the small, Europe-wide renowned spa town.
