The De Pomp-Poelberg nature reserves are a remnant of the historic Abtsheide, which stretched across the border area of the municipalities of Beerse, Rijkevorsel and Merksplas. The fens and pools attract many special plants and animals. A hotspot for salamanders and dragonflies. Proof that nature thrives there. And you can even take a nice walk among the Galloway cattle and sheep during the grazing period. Sturdy and waterproof shoes are highly recommended, especially in wet periods.

In De Pomp-Poelberg you can clearly see the traces of an industrial past. Over the course of the 20th century, almost the entire landscape was literally overhauled for the brick industry. The two large clay pits filled with water still bear witness to the hard work that was done here.

The 1.9 km 'Poelbergpad' walking loop or the 3.7 km Galloway path invite you to discover the nature reserve.

The nature reserves are a remnant of the historic Ab (t) sheide, which stretched across the border area of the municipalities of Beerse, Rijkevorsel and Merksplas. The fens and pools attract a lot of special plants and animals. A hotspot for salamanders and dragonflies. Proof that nature is doing well there! And you can enjoy a nice walk between the Galloway cattle and sheep during the grazing period.

Sturdy and waterproof shoes are highly recommended, especially in wet periods. Strollers are unfortunately not allowed. The areas are not accessible to dogs between March 15th and November 15th.

You can walk the Poelbergpad hiking trail and the Galloway route here
