The bronze statue was created by the sculptor Wolf Spitzer, Speyer, and presented to the Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg on the occasion of its inauguration on October 27, 1990.
Its construction was made possible by generous financial support from Haniel, Duisburg - Ruhrort and the Initiativekreis Ruhrgebiet, as well as donations from companies, institutions and private individuals.
The establishment was suggested by Consul Dr. Gerd W. Hulsman on the occasion of his 25th anniversary at Haniel in 1988.
