The New Officer's Building of the Schöntal Monastery is an impressive 78 meters long building above the monastery garden.
It was built in 1700 under Abbot Benedict and served until the secularization and the associated dissolution of the monastery in 1802 as the residence of the secular monastery officials, monastery inn, pharmacy and wine cellar with 45 barrels. Each barrel was given the name of a conventual and a Latin rhyme by Abbot Benedict.
After secularization, the building fell to the Duke of Württemberg as the new owner. A pharmacist bought part of the house from him and set up the pharmacy that still exists today. Hence the name "monastery pharmacy" on the southern gable wall, which sometimes causes confusion, since it does not mean the entire building, as one might assume.
In the pharmacy you can find antiquarian items that are well worth seeing, some of which date from the time the monastery was founded.
In addition to the lettering, the southern gable wall is decorated with a sundial (MDCC = 1700) and the coat of arms of the builder, Abbot Benedict. There is also an eagle on the ridge.
The house still serves today as a forestry office, in addition to a pharmacy and residential building.
