Solms Castle is located near Butzbach's old town, on Färbgasse. Its core is a late Gothic stone building, built around 1481 as an official residence, incorporating the city wall. Later, it served as the city palace of the Counts of Solms-Hohensolms (until 1630/31). It houses a magnificent Renaissance staircase dating from 1588. From 1879 to 2004, the district court was located here. Today, the castle houses medical practices. It can only be viewed from the outside. tourismus.wetterau.de/kultur/burgen-schloesser/solmser-schloss

The castle is a two-storey rectangular building, the back of which leans against the city wall. A four-storey round tower of the city wall is integrated into the castle. The outwardly quite simple Renaissance building has an elaborate interior design. According to older considerations, the building had only two large halls on each floor, which is supported by the arrangement of the windows on the outside. In fact, a different room layout may have existed in the 16th century. A detailed examination of the building structure will only be possible with a necessary renovation of the building.
The Renaissance-style staircase, which is located in the entrance risalit, is particularly worth seeing in the interior design. It contains inscriptions by a humanist that have not yet been fully deciphered.
