The field gunner's cottage was built in the 18th century to provide the "field gunners" with protection from the weather. The field riflemen had the task of driving away the game, which came out of the forest especially at night and attacked the crops on the brown fields. At that time, farmers from Waldenbuch and Dettenhausen were growing potatoes and grain, and fruit trees were added later.
The field riflemen also had the task of chasing away fruit thieves and seed-pecking crows, but also of digging ditches so that the water could drain away unhindered.

The Feldschützenhäuschen was lovingly restored in 2021 and still offers a pleasant shelter for hikers or cyclists to comfortably sit out a rain shower. 🤗
