Sequoias are actually only native to North America. However, King Wilhelm I of Württemberg had about a pound of seeds obtained and sown in the Wilhelma greenhouses. Some of the young plants were then planted all over Württemberg around 1868/69, where this tree also originated from.There are a few other sequoia trees in the Schönbuch, but according to Wikipedia this is the largest and thus the largest tree in the whole of Schönbuch at almost 50m.
