Thumsenreuth Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1259. The beautiful castle with its eye-catching shutters characterizes the town of Thumsenreuth.

Once in the possession of the Wolff von Weißenstein and related families, Thumsenreuth came into the hands of the needy von Weißenstein at the beginning of the 15th century. Thumsenreuth Castle was the most popular seat of the Nothaffen in the Steinwald area. However, in 1596 Christoph II. Nothracht von Weißenstein had to sell his Thumsenreuth property to Hans Georg Schlaher because of debts. In 1661 the castle came into the possession of the von Lindenfels family, who still own the castle today.
