The historic town hall of Oberursel is really an absolute eye-catcher. If you are riding on the thin tires, you have to hold on to the handlebars. In keeping with the old town, you are riding over cobblestones here.

      Old Town Hall (1449) - Oberursel i.T. 🚴‍♂️

The old town hall was built in 1479 on the remains of Gothic city gates.

In 1444, Oberursel was granted city rights, and trade and the number of citizens grew steadily. In 1481, the city walls were expanded to include a new part of the city – the "Tal." After fulfilling its military functions, the town hall was built on the "stolen" site of the "Lower Gate" of the first city wall. Furthermore, the building was centrally located on the newly created market square.

During the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War, the town hall burned down for the first time in 1622. Although plans for reconstruction had already existed in 1629, they could not be realized during the Thirty Years' War. In 1645, the temporary building erected in its place, along with almost the entire town, burned down again. The town hall was rebuilt in 1659 and completed in 1663. A cell for approximately 20 inmates, known as the "Betzelkammer," was set up at its base, beneath the staircase. In 1702, the town hall was decorated with a sundial; during the renovation in 1933/34, it was inscribed. A Baroque replica of the 15th/18th-century city coat of arms is located above the town hall entrance.

Since 1980, the renovated Council Chamber, with its beautiful paneling, has been available for special municipal events and weddings. 🚴‍♂️

Oberursel's most striking building and popular photo subject is the "Historic Town Hall" on the market square.

The city's landmark is the St. Ursula Church with its Hohe Wacht tower, which can be seen from afar.

The other churches in our city are also worth a special look.

The Protestant Christ Church is built with impressive stained glass windows in the Art Nouveau style.

Like this, the Hospital Church with its artistically valuable sculptures is also worth a visit.
