The nature reserve (NSG) Roßweiher is located east of the Baden-Württemberg city of Maulbronn in Enzkreis.
The Roßweiher was, as well as the Aalkistensee or the deep lake, created by the monks of the nearby monastery Maulbronn. The dammed lake in a hollow was used for fish farming, even today it is still used for the rearing of juvenile fish. By a monk - a storage and discharge device - on the northern edge of the fed from grave inflows lake, the water level was regulated. The lake has no other tributaries, which is why its water level varies greatly. Sometimes the lake is completely drained (Sömmerung), which causes individual plants to sow. Artificially created by impoundment, the lake has now assumed the character of a natural body of water. In 1937, the pond and the surrounding area were declared a nature reserve. This makes it one of the older in Baden-Württemberg today.
