The small spring church in Schöllenbach used to be a pilgrimage church. The spring water and the image of Mary in the church miracles were said. At that time the church was considerably larger, but in the context of the Reformation pilgrimages lost considerable importance. Over time, the church decayed until it was rebuilt in the late 18th century in the form of this small church.

Hiking

The source church Schöllenbach was consecrated in 1465. In former times it was a church for pilgrims who visited the Marien pilgrimage site on the way from Mainz to Walldürn. In the sanctuary, they were able to descend to a spring. The water should u.a. to help against eye diseases and childlessness. The building collapsed after the Reformation. In the 18th century, the nave was demolished down to the portal, the present entrance to the churchyard.
