The source church in Hesseneck-Schöllenbach was once an important place of pilgrimage. Two very rich sources spring up in the church under the altar.
The source church was built under the donation of Erbacher Philipp IV and consecrated in 1465. Under the southern cemetery wall emerges a strong spring, feeds a former wash basin and pours into the nearby Euterbach. The spring was dedicated to St. Ottilie, her water was used against eye and gynecological problems. Over the centuries, the church developed into a much-visited Marian pilgrimage site. Increasing decline made a transformation in 1782 necessary. The Schöllenbacher winged altar from the year 1515 is considered to be a particularly beautiful late Gothic work of ecclesiastical art. It has been extensively restored and is now located in the Hubertus Chapel of Erbach Castle.
