The Kerstlingsröder field offers pure nature in every season.

This one is one of the artificial biotopes in the Göttingen Forest. It is one of what used to be two concrete tubs in which the tanks of the Zietenkaserne could be washed before returning from the Kerstlingeröder Feld training area. The area wasn't always as green as it is now. Everything here used to be furrowed across a great breadth of armor tracks. In damp weather the Kerstlingeröder field was a mud desert, and in drier times it was extremely dusty here. With the discontinuation of military use, the tank washing system remained for a long time as a concrete structure filled with water. Curiously, you saw more animals then than now. In the spring it was teeming with newts. The rarer crested newt could also be observed here. The yellow fire beetle was even found on water beetles.

In the meantime, nature has brought back a lot of man-made things! The way here is worthwhile to take a look at the ruins of the old armored car wash. - A little caution is recommended after heavy rain, then the trail is muddy in places and puddles in places.
