From early 2009 to June 2010, the station was rebuilt. This created two outer platforms, which are connected by an underpass. In addition, the old station building was partially restored, and no longer needed tracks were rebuilt for the purpose of the Balkan route.

At 330 m above sea level, Lennep station is the highest in the area of the Rhein-Ruhr transport association (VRR). The S7 with a spacious multi-purpose compartment for taking bicycles can be used as a climbing aid at no additional cost either from Solingen Hbf (at 90 m) or from Wuppertal (at 160 m).
