Here starts the Balkan route. It goes from Lennep to Opladen, with a well signposted break in Wermelskirchen. In the course you meet the route "Water Quintet", here you can cycle in the direction of Marienheide.

From early 2009 to June 2010, the station was rebuilt. This created two outer platforms, which are connected by an underpass. In addition, the old station building was partially restored, and no longer needed tracks were rebuilt for the purpose of the Balkan route.

At 330 m above sea level, Lennep station is the highest in the area of the Rhein-Ruhr transport association (VRR). The S7 with a spacious multi-purpose compartment for taking bicycles can be used as a climbing aid at no additional cost either from Solingen Hbf (at 90 m) or from Wuppertal (at 160 m). Great launch pad for i.a. following tours
    Balkantrasse West to Opladen
    Balkan route east to Marienheide
Wupper down via Radevormwald to Wuppertal
via Eschbach or Morsbach to Wupper and down to Leverkusen

This 1994 "work of art" commemorates the railway junction Lennep. The train station Remscheid - Lennep was one of the most important railway junctions in the entire Bergisches Land

It is worthwhile to visit the beautiful old town of Remscheid Lennep from here. Very nice cafe and restaurants available

Whether the beginning or the end of the route, depends on where you come from :-)

Here the Bergische Panorama cycle path starts, with which you can leave the reservoirs in the direction of Olpe. (Lennep - Marienheide via route, rest so) In Bergisch Born shares the route and you can also drive there in the direction of Opladen. Either way. Remscheid Lennep is well connected and therefore a very good starting point

Here ends the Balkan route to just 350m. Since you are looking forward to the Balkan route to drive again, this time just down.

The Balkan route is a former railway embankment that connects Opladen with Lennep as the cycle path.

Directly in the immediate vicinity of the station Lennep begins the Balkan route. It is well developed here and leads to Wermelskirchen and later towards Burscheid the whole time slightly downhill. Great to drive.

The train station in Lennep is now not a special highlight but you can use it great to travel by train, if you come from further away, because here in the immediate vicinity begins the Balkan route.

Balkantrasse (start / finish in Remscheid-Lennep)
What is the Balkan route? It or the Balkan Express describes the historic railway line between Leverkusen-Opladen and Remscheid-Lennep. The name probably goes back to the fact that once the Rhinelander thought it would go east into the barren steppe. We don't comment on that now. On a total of 28 kilometers, a difference in altitude of approx. 280 meters is mastered very gently as is typical for the railway. From Remscheid-Lennep you drive out of the barren steppe towards Rhineland and therefore mainly downhill. Remscheid-Lennep is the ideal starting point / destination for a bike tour on well-fortified ground through the Bergisches Land.

You roll, and roll, and roll. Rarely is it so easy to enjoy such a long distance. Even the two passages in Wermelskirchen and Burscheid with their temptations, cafés, ice cream parlors and places to stop for refreshments fit into it. A recommendation also for couples and families. For children, the Opdenhoven estate in Opladen is a highlight of experiencing nature.
