EJB at Werbellinsee (Former Pioneer Republic Wilhelm Pieck)

The former Pioneer Republic "Wilhelm Pieck" was opened in 1952 after the Council of Ministers of the GDR had already decided in 1949 to build such a facility based on the model of the Soviet Pioneer Republic "Artek".
Whole school classes spent several weeks here all year round, including lessons.

It is amazing how quickly the war-torn GDR set up this project for children. Initially war orphans were looked after, later the pioneer organization was added. It's great that the basic idea of meeting and activating young people has found a continuation in the EYC.
