Klaipeda is the third largest city in Lithuania with about 180,000 inhabitants and economic and cultural center of Western Lithuania. The port of Klaipeda is the northernmost ice-free port on the east coast of the Baltic Sea and one of the attractions of the region. It is the most important transport connection between East and West. Every year, more than 7,000 ships from 45 countries arrive here and more than 30 million tons of cargo are loaded.
Probably the most famous monument in Klaipėda (formerly Memel) is the Simon Roof Fountain with the pillar on the Ännchen of Tharau.

The tour led us through the small, cozy old town, to the theater square with the fountain "Ännchen von Tharau" and to historical buildings worth seeing. The city has 160,000 inhabitants and is located on the Memel.
