The chapel, a white rectangular building with two floors, was inaugurated on 23 September 1928 in the presence of King Leopold III, Queen Astrid and the Belgian bishops. The monument was erected in memory of all allied soldiers who died at the Yser, regardless of their nationality. About 100 meters north of the IJzer Bridge in Diksmuide, there is a calvary monument along the former towpath on the IJzer: a cross in memory of all the dead of the First World War, regardless of their nationality, for both friend and enemy. The inauguration of Calvary took place on September 23, 1928 in the presence of King Leopold III, Queen Astrid and the Belgian bishops. This was one of the top days in Diksmuide at the time. Riders opened the procession in the General Baron Jacquesstraat towards Calvary. The chapel was consecrated by Bishop Waffelaert, Bishop of Bruges. Pilgrimages were also organized to these places in the past. It is a white-painted rectangular building. There is a chapel inside. The roof terrace is accessible via the two side stairs. On top is a cross with a bronze Christ figure.
