Bears born or kept in captivity can no longer be released into the wild. The BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach offers these bears a protected habitat where they can finally be bears.
It hurts your heart to read information boards about the lives of the bears that live here.
The first stage of the bear trail begins here at the parking lot at the bear sanctuary.

The Bear Forest Arbesbach was founded by the animal welfare organization Four Paws as a rescue station for bears from circus, zoo and private housing. In the early years it was not open to visitors, but due to the great interest of the people in Bärenwald, the wonderful opportunity was created to be able to see the bears up close.

We did that as part of a guided tour on Sunday morning and saw many bears. It's a bit of a matter of luck, as they move around 14,000 square meters of land, but with brown bears constantly searching for the food that's hidden away for them, the chance of a close-up encounter only increases with the high-security fencing separated. Currently there are six brown bears living here, one of which can only be seen as part of the tour.

In addition to the bears, there is a lot to see on the site: interesting, funny, garden corners and play areas for children and dogs, which are very welcome here (also have 4 paws!).

Strengths can be found either in the snack bar in front of the bear forest or in the nearby restaurant Bärenhof and a shop for souvenirs of course there's also! I really liked it here.
