Today's Plau town hall was built in the style of the Dutch Renaissance in 1888/89. The hilltop town hall is particularly beautiful to look at in autumn, when the wild wine is presented in the most beautiful autumn colors. The small but fine clock tower is nice to look at.

The history of the Plau town hall is exciting. This burned down almost completely in 1985, thanks to "aid" from the town hall staff (the smoldering fire in the roof structure turned into a "real" fire after employees opened access to the roof). The then district of Schwerin initially refused financial help for the reconstruction and recommended the demolition of the remaining walls, whereupon Plau citizens raised 70,000 GDR marks in a very short time to push the reconstruction. As a result, the district administration could no longer hide, and the town hall was rebuilt within just a few months until the city's 750th anniversary.
