    Tips

    July 30, 2018

Leave early in the morning, pack enough water. The last part is rope insured. Overall, alpine experience is useful. You should be sure-footed and free from giddiness.

The highest peak in the Karwendel (2,749 meters) with an overwhelming view.

The ascent to the Birkkarspitze at the beginning of September 2021 was an absolutely great experience. After spending the night in the Karwendelhaus (highly recommended), we left at around 08:00, first past the avalanche barriers behind the Karwendelhaus, then 1-2 dozen chamois were waiting for us quietly eating. Then the ascent to the Schlauchkar, despite almost 11 kg weight not as strenuous as often described, I could not confirm the 2 step forward, 1 step back for that day. At the top after the Schlauchkar there was a lot of fresh snow, the host of the Karwendelhaus had warned against the ascent the previous evening because of the snow and only recommended this to "mountain experienced" people. After the fresh snow field in partly steep terrain, we arrived at the Birkkarhüttl, unforgettable the writing inside under the sign of the DAV: "AV asses", we curled up and left the heavy rucksacks in the Hüttl, a short snack and then up to the Birkkarspitze, it wasn't difficult anymore, a great view at the top with great sunshine. Then back to the Hüttl, and tackled the very long descent with the backpacks, that was one of the most violent things of that day in my memory and dragged on forever. And the ascent to the Hallerangerhaus is not to be despised after hours of exertion in the sun, but it went without any problems and I can only recommend this tour to everyone.
