St. Nikolai in Quern
Following the example of Sörup and Munkbrarup, it was started around 1200 as a granite block construction. With this elaborate construction method, however, one could not get beyond the beautifully profiled base, then only the corners were made with cuboids and the wall surfaces were raised with field stones. The original church consisted of a box choir and a relatively short nave, the north side of which has three small arched windows and - to the west - a walled portal. The arches of these openings are already made of bricks. As early as the second quarter of the 13th century, the church began to be extended to the west with a new portal axis and two window axes in field stones. The northern of the two younger portals is still late Romanesque with a round arch and stepped framing by circumferential bands of round shaped bricks. The early Gothic south portal in the vestibule, which was renewed in 1909, is more progressive and elaborate. Two pairs of thin pillars with molded stone capitals stand in its alternating frame made of glazed and natural red bricks

The church in Groß Quern, St. Nikolai, was built around 1200 based on the model of Sörup and Munkbrarup. It was started as a granite block construction, but not finished.
