The Oleftalsperre was built in 1954-59. Due to cracks, the barrier had to be reinforced twice afterwards. Since 1965, the barrier has been used for drinking water, energy production and water level regulation for the Olef.
The height of the dam wall above the valley floor is 54.6 m, the storage capacity of the lake 19.3 million cubic meters.
