Santa Maria in Val Müstair is a stopover point for many mountain bikers on their Transalp.

In recent years it has become increasingly known as a base for discovering some of the big highlights between the Swiss National Park and the Stelvio National Park, such as the Val Mora, Pass da Costainas, the trails on the Stelvio Pass and the Piz Umbrail. The Val Müstair is currently developing more and more from an insider tip into a hotspot for enduro bikers.

There are some very nice accommodations that specialize in mountain bikers and cyclists. In Santa Maria, as in the entire Val Müstair, the Graubünden Romansh dialect “Jauer” is spoken. When greeting, it's Allegra instead of Hello or Grüezi. ;)

If you are on the way to the Umbrail Pass or Val Mora, this is your last chance to stock up in one of the small grocery stores.
