Station 11 of the Lüneburg Peace Path - a place of remembrance for the synagogue and the Jewish community
The synagogue in Lüneburg was the religious center of the local Jewish community. The foundation stone was laid on the street Am Schifferwall in 1892, and the synagogue was inaugurated in 1894.

The building was designed as a brick building with a main and two secondary domes. A symbolic instruction board was placed above the Thoranic niche on the east wall. On the west wall was the entrance, above which the gallery ran as a seating area for the women. The synagogue had a total of 200 seats, although the congregation only had around 100 members at the time.

On November 9, 2018, a newly designed memorial was inaugurated at the former location.

Nothing is reminiscent of the Jewish synagogue except a memorial stone. You can find it only if you know where it is.

The consecration of the synagogue in 1894 represents the culmination of the Jewish emancipation in Lüneburg. But by persecution and flight, the number of Jews dropped from 175 in 1905 to 39 on 1.8.1938. The community leaders were forced to sell the property to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and pay for the demolition of the temple. With a solemn service, the community dissolved on 23.10.1938. Since 1950 there is a memorial stone.
