The idyllic island in the middle of the city was once inhabited by fishermen - and today is home to many small, exclusive shops and a few restaurants. Four bridges connect the island to the mainland: the covered Hangman's Bridge in the west, the Grinder's Bridge in the east and the northern and southern Charles Bridge in the middle.
