The elaborately restored Castillo de San Felipe on the Playa de Jardin in Puerto de la Cruz is worth seeing. It was built in the 17th century to defend the ships that sought refuge at the Puerto piers. Today it serves as a cultural center where exhibitions and concerts are held. The fortress is open (except Sun / Mon) 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free.
