The old “Trettach II” hydropower plant on Herrmann-von-Barth-Strasse was replaced by the new “Illerursprung” hydropower plant.
The new system (6.3 million kWh) has a more than four times higher output than "Trettach II" (1.5 million kWh) and increases the proportion of locally generated regenerative energy to over 50%. Last but not least, Oberstdorf's independence from the energy market is being expanded.
The reservoir structure at the existing location was renewed and the headwater was directed in a 2.35 km long penstock to the new power house approx. 400 meters below the source of the Iller.
