The Stadel Cave in Hohlenstein is often referred to as St. Peter's Basilica of the Stone Age, since important cult finds from the Palaeolithic were made here, such as the lion man and a skull burial.

A rock massif with two larger caves, left the barn and right the Bear Cave, both of which protrude 50 or 60 meters deep into the rock. In between is a 10 m wide rock roof, called Kleine Scheuer. The Bear Cave, as its name implies, was a favorite lodging for the Ice Age Cave Bear. Almost 100 bear skulls and numerous fossil bear bones were found here.

However, the most important site of the Hohlenstein is the barn, which provided exceptionally rich archaeological finds. Tools and bone of the Neanderthal man as well as the world-famous approx. 32,000 year old ivory figure "Löwenmensch". The barn is considered the most beautiful and largest of all Lonetalhöhlen.

The best access to the Hohlenstein via Lindenau to the trail parking lot at the edge of the forest. From there, a path leads down into the Lonetal, the Hohlenstein caves are on the right side of the valley and are freely accessible.
